5 BEN Net Questions for Stephan.

I’m inspired by Architecture and good design, so every morning I decide what’s the ‘one thing’ I can do today to bring me closer to a better tomorrow. I’m inspired by the thought and action needed to develop my business in the direction of ‘Low Carbon’ homes. It’s all about our impact on the earth and the built environment being ‘gentle on the earth’.   To do this, in my profession, it’s about good design, and by taking the key role of establishing the design, from ‘Conception to Resurrection’ so not only meeting our clients requirements and dreams, but also giving back to our planet as opposed to taking, ensuring a better future for our kids.

For many years we have been designing home and units, townhouses and duplexes, meeting our clients ‘Brief’.
In recent years we have come to realise that we can offer much more than just a design service.
We are passionate about providing bespoke one off ‘low carbon-low impact’ contemporary modern homes that are designed to not only to meet our clients brief, but can also be ‘gentle on the earth’.

By working closely with our clients, getting to know them, their family, and understanding their dreams and aspirations, we then create something magical.
As we’ve been trained in our early years, we work with paper and pencil, then use the latest 3D computer CAD software to produce modelling, movies, fly arounds and walk-thru computer modeling, allowing us to ensure our client fully understands their new home, without any hidden unknowns.
We research the latest products and materials, understand how passive design can not only a comfortable home to live in, but also save operational costs during the home life.
Before a builder is engaged, our clients are fully immersed and involved in the design process such that they understand and appreciate the outcome.  A fully specified and detailed set of plans results in a completed design, detailed and priced to meet all budget requirements.

When working closely with our clients, we are and feel responsible to provide them with a home that meets all their aspirations, and more.  We pride ourselves on setting high standards, in design and service.
We actually don’t accept all projects.
Once we’ve met and addressed our customised ‘Scoping Meeting’ with our potential clients, we then work with those where we feel we can help, understand and most importantly, develop close relationships with, an essential requirement to achieving a high standard and a high quality design.

Our ideal clients are usually young families who have outgrown their present home and looking to build a new home.
They are acutely aware of their environmental impact that the ‘modern world’ has on the earth.  They are seeking something different and unique, a home that not only is a pleasure to live in, but also has minimal impact on the earth and will eventually give back to the earth when is reaches its ‘use-by’ date.
They are seeking to provide a brighter and better healthy future for their children and the generations to come.

Answer The Whys
Who What When
This guide will help you cover critical aspects of Preparing For Your Design Project & Engaging an Architect.

A good working relationship with your Architect is based on open, honest communication. This starts with a good Design Brief that helps the Architect understand your expectations, preferences, wants, needs, aspirations and lifestyle. If your expectations are not clearly outlined and understood by all parties, you run the risk of spending unnecessary money, project complications and costly delays. A well thought-out Design Brief is the foundation for a successful project. This guide will help ensure you are well prepared for your Design Project.

THE PHILOSOPHY

Our design approach is to design and construct homes that are:

  • Designed correctly to maximise the passive aspects of good design
  • Healthy homes that do not poison our kids
  • Built efficiently with little waste during construction
  • Incorporate products and appliances that are considered ‘green’ and efficient
  • Homes that are able to be monitored during its life cycle, such that you are in control of operational cost during the life of the home, and …
  • At the end of the day, a large percentage of the home (we’re aiming for 80%, if not more) can be returned to the earth, recycled in some format.

We call this our holistic approach to design, our ‘Conception to Resurrection’ design and building philosophy, an outcome that we believe is achievable in today’s world and and essential for the future of our planet.
